Stitch and Bitch at The Handmade Fair Bowood House 2018

Image
We had a lovely day at The Handmade Fair and we met lots of lovely people who came and chatted, some knitted a few rows with us, and some donated to our Dressability collection bucket - A big thank you to them. One of our assistant knitters on the day was just 9 years old and she picked up the pins and knitted a few rows of our ongoing knitted scarf for the elderly. What a little star she was! Unfortunately we didn't meet Kirstie Allsop because she was only there on the Friday, but luckily we took our own crocheted Kirstie.

You may remember the characterful dolls that Swindon Stitch and Bitch made and displayed at the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery ? Well they caught the eye of The Handmade Fair at Bowood House and they asked if they too could display the dolls as an exhibit. So if you missed them the first time, this is another chance to not only see the dolls but to also put in a bid to buy them. Stitch and Bitch will be taking closed bids on the dolls, just let us know which doll you’d like and how much you’d like to donate; the suggested donation is £25 per doll. All proceeds go to Swindon Mind . Tracey Major, a Swindon Stitch and Bitcher, said “It was honour to have the dolls invited to The Handmade Fair at Bowood, how could we say no? We have already sold some of the dolls and raised lots of money for charity and this is a wonderful opportunity to display them all again.” The Handmade Fair fronted by Kirstie Allsop runs from 22nd of June to the 24th of June. Swindon Stitch and Bitch & The Longest Knit

Swindon’s Stitch and Bitch are going to Avebury on Wednesday 20th June 2018 for the longest knitting day. The 21st is the summer solstice, so they will make the most of the daylight hours spending time knitting. The group will be travelling to Avebury on the bus from Swindon Bus Station and they will be knitting on the bus on the way to Avebury and at Avebury under the wishing tree knitting and crocheting hanging spirals. The ladies will be gifting their spirals to visitors in return for donations. All donations will be going to Dressability. Dressability provides a low-cost clothing alteration and dressmaking service for people with disabilities, and Swindon Stitch and Bitch will be collecting donations from their longest knit to Dressability because it’s such a fantastic charity. Swindon Stitch and Bitch are working closely with Dressability making woollen garments for Swindon’s elderly who find themselves choosing between heating and eating during the winter months.
